At Prescott Hearing Center, we are committed to providing comprehensive hearing care services using advanced diagnostic tools. One such tool we utilize is tympanometry, a crucial test designed to assess the function of your middle ear. Understanding how your middle ear operates is vital for diagnosing and treating various ear conditions effectively.
What is Tympanometry?
Tympanometry is a test that evaluates the mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) in response to changes in air pressure. This test helps determine how well the middle ear is functioning, which includes the eardrum and the space behind it where the tiny hearing bones are located.
During the tympanometry test, a small probe is gently placed into the ear canal. The device changes the air pressure in the ear and emits a tone. As the pressure changes, the probe measures the eardrum’s movement and how sound is transmitted through the middle ear.
